An ICSE paper is set by CISCE with a larger internal assessment component than CBSE carries, assessed per subject rather than as one figure. Several subjects are examined as more than one paper, and science is taken as three separate papers in physics, chemistry and biology rather than one combined science paper.
We do not write the questions. TurtleDock holds no question bank: this gives you the paper’s structure and the marks arithmetic, and the items are set by the subject teacher against the syllabus actually taught.
The structural difference that matters when setting an ICSE pre-board is that internal assessment is heavier and subject-specific. A school that models it as a single internal mark per student, the way a CBSE-shaped system often does, will find the numbers do not reconcile when the returns are due.
CISCE publishes the regulations and specimen papers for each subject. Those are the authority; this page is about the structural decisions a school makes when setting its own papers to that pattern.
These are the differences that change how a paper is set and how marks are held, rather than differences of syllabus content.
| Aspect | What it means for setting papers |
|---|---|
| Separate science papers | Three blueprints, three marking schemes, three sets of internal marks — not one science paper split into parts |
| Per-subject internal assessment | Each subject carries its own scheme and its own weights; one internal figure per student loses the structure |
| Project work assessed per subject | Assessed against a stated scheme with a named assessor, not a participation mark |
| Two-paper subjects | Some subjects examine in more than one paper; the blueprint is per paper, not per subject |
| Language emphasis | English is examined across language and literature components, which are blueprinted separately |
The failure mode is consistent and it surfaces late. Internal marks get kept in a spreadsheet per teacher, combined into one figure per student at the end of the year, and at that point the components cannot be recovered — so a query about one subject’s project mark has no answer.
Phrased the way they arrive, answered so each one stands on its own.
Yes, and many schools need it. The board is a property of the enrolment, so the two streams share the roll and the fee ledger while keeping separate assessment structures, internal schemes and report card formats.
Yes — build one blueprint per paper. That is the correct shape for ICSE, where physics, chemistry and biology are examined separately rather than as parts of one paper.
The CISCE regulations and the specimen papers the council publishes for each subject. Take the current year’s, since these are revised.
