SchoolDeck runs the full examination cycle: assessment structure and weightings, question paper blueprints, seating plans and hall tickets, mark entry with moderation, and results that post straight to the student record and the report card without being entered a second time.
It does not invigilate or evaluate. Marks are entered by teachers or imported from OMR; the system enforces the structure around them.
Examinations are the only weeks in a school year where being wrong is unrecoverable. A fee posted to the wrong head can be corrected on Monday; a mark sheet issued with a moderation applied twice cannot be quietly fixed once it is in a parent’s hands.
Before any mark is entered, the structure has to say what an examination is worth: which components exist, how they weight together, what grade bands apply, and whether a component is best-of or compulsory. Boards differ and schools differ within a board, particularly at Class 9 where internal schemes vary most.
Getting this configured before the first term rather than after it is the difference between a smooth year and a re-computation across every section in February.
Moderation is legitimate and common — a paper turned out harder than intended, and the whole cohort is adjusted. What makes it dangerous is that it is usually applied in a spreadsheet, by one person, with no record of the original marks.
Applied in the system, moderation records who applied it, when, on what basis, and what the marks were before. The raw mark is never overwritten. When a parent queries a grade in March, the answer takes a minute rather than an afternoon of reconstructing what happened.
