Maharashtra board question paper structure

The Maharashtra State Board conducts SSC at Class 10 and HSC at Class 12 through nine divisional boards. Papers carry oral, practical or internal components alongside the written examination, and schools running more than one medium of instruction set and hold papers per medium.

We do not write the questions. TurtleDock holds no question bank: this gives you the paper’s structure and the marks arithmetic, and the items are set by the subject teacher against the syllabus actually taught.

Two things shape paper setting under MSBSHSE more than the syllabus does. The board administers through divisional boards rather than centrally, so correspondence and returns follow the division a school sits in. And a great many schools run Marathi, English and semi-English mediums in the same building.

A pre-board set once and translated is not the same paper in each medium, and treating it as one is where comparability quietly disappears.

Setting papers across mediums

A paper in two mediums is two papers. They should be blueprinted once and set twice, with the translation checked by someone who teaches in that medium.

  • One blueprint, two papers. Structure, weighting and mark values are common; the questions are set in each medium.
  • Translation is checked by a subject teacher of that medium, not by a language teacher — the failure is usually a technical term, not grammar.
  • Semi-English needs its own decision. Where mathematics and science are taught in English within a Marathi-medium stream, be explicit about which paper each candidate sits.
  • Results are held per medium, so a difficulty difference between versions is visible rather than averaged away.

Oral, practical and internal components

Several MSBSHSE subjects carry marks assessed inside the school alongside the written paper. As everywhere, these are held as components with a named assessor rather than as one combined figure, because that is what a query or a moderation needs to reach.

The divisional structure matters here too: which division a school belongs to determines where returns go and which index number it carries, so it belongs on the school record — and for a group with campuses in two divisions, on each campus rather than on the trust.

FAQ

Questions people ask

Phrased the way they arrive, answered so each one stands on its own.

Should a pre-board be set separately for each medium?

Blueprint once, set twice. Sharing the structure keeps the results comparable; setting the questions in each medium avoids the translation artefacts that make one version harder than the other.

Where does the divisional board come into paper setting?

Not into the paper itself, but into everything around it — correspondence, index numbers and where returns go. It belongs on the school record for that reason.

Is the SSC pattern the same as CBSE Class 10?

No. The subject structure, the internal and oral components and the mark distribution differ, which is why a system configured for one board and adapted to the other tends to survive the year and fail in the results fortnight.
