Produce a character certificate stating the period a student attended and their conduct, chosen from a fixed set of gradings rather than typed freely — because conduct is a statement the institution is accountable for.
A school should not certify conduct it cannot support from its own records. The fixed gradings are a prompt to that, not a constraint on your judgement.
A character certificate is asked for at almost every transition — a new school, a college admission, sometimes a first job. It is also the certificate schools are most often asked to alter afterwards, which is a good reason for the wording to be conservative in the first place.
An open field invites a stronger claim than the school can support, and the pressure to make it stronger comes from the family standing at the counter. A fixed set — excellent, very good, good, satisfactory — is what almost every school actually uses, and it keeps the certificate consistent between students issued a fortnight apart.
Where a school genuinely cannot certify good conduct, the honest course is to decline rather than to issue a weaker wording that the reader may not parse.
The standard wording says no disciplinary action is known to the office. That is deliberately narrower than saying none occurred — a school can only certify what its own records show, and a certificate that claims more than the records support is the one that causes a problem later.
Phrased the way they arrive, answered so each one stands on its own.
A bonafide confirms a student is on roll. A character certificate speaks to conduct over the period they attended, and is usually issued on leaving.
Not on its own. It formats a document your institution issues — validity comes from the signature, the seal and the entry in your own register. Nothing here generates a signature, a seal or a serial number, for exactly that reason.
No. It runs in your browser, nothing is sent anywhere, and there is no sign-in. Printing uses your own browser’s print dialogue, which is also how you save it as a PDF.
