The List of Candidates registers who sits the Class X and XII board examinations. Unlike other returns, an error here lands on a named student — a wrong subject combination, a misspelt name or a wrong date of birth becomes a wrong certificate, and correcting it afterwards is slow and sometimes chargeable.
Procedures, portal screens and deadlines change, and several have changed recently. Confirm the current circular from the issuing authority before acting on any timing or step here.
Most school returns are administrative: get one wrong and an official asks a question. The LOC is different. Get it wrong and a student receives a board certificate with their mother’s name misspelt, and carries that into every application they ever make.
Every one of these is verifiable against a document the school already holds. The errors happen because the LOC is prepared from a list rather than from the records.
A school that reconciles names and dates of birth against birth certificates in Class IX has a quiet LOC in Class X. One that does it during the submission window has a fortnight of families being telephoned, and some of them will not answer in time.
The same applies to subject combinations: verify them when the student chooses, against what the school actually offers and what the board permits, rather than at registration.
In order. Each step assumes the one before it is finished.
Phrased the way they arrive, answered so each one stands on its own.
It carries to the board certificate. Correction after the fact goes through the board’s own process, takes time and may attract a fee — which is why the check belongs before submission.
Within the board’s correction window and rules, which are narrow. Verify combinations when the student chooses rather than at registration.
The student record, which should already match the birth certificate. Preparing the LOC from a separately maintained list is how the two diverge.
