CBSE OASIS: an annual return that has to match your other returns

OASIS is CBSE’s affiliated-school information system, where a school files its own particulars annually — infrastructure, staff and enrolment. Its difficulty is not the form; it is that the figures must agree with UDISE+, with the LOC filed later, and with the school’s own records.

Procedures, portal screens and deadlines change, and several have changed recently. Confirm the current circular from the issuing authority before acting on any timing or step here.

Every school that files OASIS has had the same experience: the form itself takes an afternoon, and assembling figures that agree with what was filed elsewhere takes a fortnight.

01

One roll, filed several ways

OASIS, UDISE+ and the LOC ask about the same students on different dates in different cuts. Where each is assembled from a fresh extract, they disagree — and a school asked to explain the difference cannot, because nobody recorded what changed between the dates.

Reporting all three from one dated roll, with admissions, transfers and withdrawals recorded as movements, turns "why do these disagree" into "here is what changed between those dates". That is the whole of the fix and it is not a software feature so much as a discipline.

02

Staff figures are checked against affiliation

Teacher count, qualifications and pupil–teacher ratio filed here are read against what the school committed to at affiliation. A school that has lost staff and not replaced them files a figure that invites a question, and the honest course is to have an answer rather than a rounded number.

FAQ

Questions people ask

Phrased the way they arrive, answered so each one stands on its own.

What is OASIS used for?

It holds CBSE’s record of an affiliated school’s own particulars — infrastructure, staff and enrolment — updated by the school annually.

What if our OASIS and UDISE+ figures differ?

They will, if they were taken on different dates. That is fine and explainable when movements are recorded. It is not explainable when each was assembled from a separate extract.

Can software file it for us?

No. It holds and reconciles the figures the return is built from and exports them. Submission is the school’s own action, and any vendor claiming otherwise is describing screen automation that breaks when the portal changes.
