Knowing where every child is, and who is allowed to collect them

School safety in software terms is narrow and concrete: an accurate live roll of who is on campus, bus boarding confirmed at the stop, pick-up authorisation recorded per person, visitor entry logged, and an unexplained absence that reaches a parent within the hour rather than at the end of the day.

This is record-keeping and notification. It does not replace supervision, and no system prevents an incident on its own.

The question a school cannot afford to answer slowly is where a specific child is right now. Everything else in this area — visitor logs, CCTV, drills — is important and none of it answers that question, because the answer depends on the attendance register being current rather than reconciled on Friday.

01

The unexplained absence, within the hour

A child marked absent in first period whose parent did not report them absent is the single highest-value alert a school system generates. The parent believes the child left for school; the school believes the child stayed home. That gap should close in minutes, and it closes only if the register is entered in the room rather than collected at lunchtime.

This is the strongest operational argument for offline-capable attendance: an alert that depends on connectivity in a stairwell is an alert that does not fire on exactly the mornings it matters.

02

Boarding, not just tracking

GPS on a bus tells a parent where the bus is. It does not tell them whether their child is on it, and that is the question being asked. Boarding confirmation at the stop and again on arrival is what closes the loop, and it is also what makes the afternoon reverse trip safe — a child who boarded in the morning but not in the afternoon is a flag, not a footnote.

03

Pick-up authorisation as a record, not a memory

Who may collect a child is recorded per person against the student, with a photograph, and it is not the same list as the guardians who receive messages. Grandparents, drivers and neighbours routinely appear on one list and not the other. Where custody arrangements apply, the record is the school’s only defensible position at the gate.

FAQ

Questions people ask

Phrased the way they arrive, answered so each one stands on its own.

Does this integrate with our existing CCTV or gate hardware?

Biometric and RFID units already installed for attendance are supported, and visitor entry can be logged against a pass. Video surveillance is out of scope — it is a different system with different retention obligations.

How quickly does an absence alert reach a parent?

Within minutes of the register being submitted, subject to your own rule for what counts as unexplained. Most schools set it to fire on a first-period absence with no leave recorded.

Can we restrict who sees a child’s location and pick-up list?

Yes, per field and per role. This is among the most sensitive data a school holds and defaults to the narrowest access rather than the widest.
