OMR sheets scanned, matched, and the mismatches reported

TutorDesk imports OMR answer sheets from scanners you already own, evaluates against the key including negative marking, matches each sheet to a student by roll number, and reports every sheet it could not match rather than discarding it.

We do not sell or support scanning hardware. Sheet quality and scanner settings remain yours to manage.

OMR is still the right technology for a coaching test series, because sitting a paper under exam conditions is closer to the real thing than tapping through a screen. The failure mode is not the scanning — it is what happens to sheets that do not match.

01

Why unmatched sheets are the whole problem

In any batch of two hundred sheets, some will not match: a roll number filled in wrongly, a smudged bubble, a student who used last term’s number. Systems that drop these silently produce a rank list missing four students, and nobody notices until one of them complains.

Every unmatched sheet is reported with its scanned image, so somebody resolves it before ranks are published. That takes ten minutes and prevents the conversation where a parent asks why their child is not on the list.

02

Negative marking, configured per paper

Different exams penalise differently, and a test series is only useful practice if it penalises the way the real paper does. The scheme is set per paper — no penalty, a quarter mark, a third — and applied at evaluation.

It is also worth showing students what their guessing cost them, which most centres never do and which changes behaviour more than being told to guess less.

FAQ

Questions people ask

Phrased the way they arrive, answered so each one stands on its own.

What scanner do we need?

A standard document scanner you likely already own. We do not sell, fit or warrant hardware, and OMR-specific machines are rarely necessary.

What happens to sheets that cannot be matched?

They are reported with their scanned image for someone to resolve before ranks are published. Silently dropping them is the most common way an OMR pipeline produces a wrong rank list.

Can we generate the OMR sheets too?

Yes, free, with the question count and option layout you set. That is available as a standalone tool as well.
