Free OMR sheet generator

Generate printable OMR answer sheets for your own test series: set the question count, number of options, whether roll numbers are bubbled or written, and the marking scheme. Sheets download as a print-ready PDF and work with an ordinary document scanner.

Print at full size without page scaling. Scaled printing shifts the bubble positions and is the most common cause of scanning failures.

Most centres buying pre-printed OMR sheets are paying for paper and a layout they could produce themselves. The sheets are not complicated; what matters is that they print at exactly the right size and that the roll number field is unambiguous.

The three things that make sheets scan badly

  • Page scaling on print. "Fit to page" shifts every bubble by a few millimetres, and the whole batch fails to read. Print at 100% and check one sheet against the on-screen dimensions before running two hundred.
  • Ambiguous roll number entry. A bubbled roll number scans reliably; a handwritten one does not. If students write it, expect to resolve unmatched sheets by hand.
  • Poor paper or light pens. Thin paper shows bubbles from the reverse side; a pencil that is too hard reads as blank. Both are cheap to fix and expensive to discover after the test.

What to do about unmatched sheets

In any batch of two hundred, a few will not match a student — a misfilled roll number, a smudge, a student using last term’s number. The temptation is to discard them and publish.

Do not. Every unmatched sheet is a student who will ask why they are not on the rank list, and resolving four sheets takes ten minutes against a conversation with four parents that takes considerably longer.

FAQ

Questions people ask

Phrased the way they arrive, answered so each one stands on its own.

Do I need a special OMR scanner?

No. An ordinary document scanner is sufficient. Dedicated OMR machines are rarely necessary for coaching-scale volumes.

Why did my sheets fail to scan?

Almost always page scaling on print. "Fit to page" shifts bubble positions; print at 100% and verify one sheet before printing the batch.

Can I set negative marking on the sheet?

The marking scheme is applied at evaluation rather than printed on the sheet, though you can include it in the instructions block so students know what a guess costs them.
